SimonsVoss 3060 Credentials: Transponder, SmartCard or MobileKey?

SimonsVoss System 3060 offers three credential options, and they can be mixed freely on the same installation. The default "key" is an active transponder — a battery-powered device at 25 kHz that is pressed to open a lock. For users who prefer a card, there is a passive SmartCard at 13.56 MHz. For phone-based access, SimonsVoss offers MobileKey using its AX2Go app over Bluetooth.

Choosing between them is a practical decision about form factor and battery, not about who can supply them, because all three are keyed to your System 3060 system by SimonsVoss or your installer. The three SimonsVoss credentials differ mainly in form, radio, and whether they carry a battery. The transponder is the most distinctive: an active, battery-powered device, unlike the passive SmartCard and the phone-based MobileKey. The table below sets them side by side.

There is no aftermarket SimonsVoss transponder because it is an active, copy-protected device keyed into your specific System 3060 system — not an open card with a readable serial number. SimonsVoss states that its electronic keys "are protected against unauthorised copying" and that a hardware Secure Element "stores the encrypted system data" and "safely protects against external attacks."

In plain terms, a SimonsVoss transponder has no exposed identifier for a third party to read and duplicate, and it will only work once it has been enrolled into your installation. That means the legitimate — and only — source of additional transponders is SimonsVoss or your installer. Any claim of a ready-to-use "compatible" SimonsVoss transponder should be treated as a red flag.

MobileKey is SimonsVoss's smartphone credential, and AX2Go is the app that turns a phone into a digital key over Bluetooth. Instead of carrying a transponder or card, an enrolled user unlocks a SimonsVoss cylinder or reader from their phone, and an administrator can issue or revoke that mobile key remotely.

Like the transponder and the SmartCard, MobileKey is bound to your System 3060 installation, so it is provisioned through SimonsVoss's software rather than sourced as a physical product. It is best thought of as a third form factor for the same keyed credential, chosen for convenience and remote management rather than as a way around the fact that SimonsVoss credentials are not third-party reproducible.

Additional SimonsVoss transponders, SmartCards, and MobileKeys all come from SimonsVoss or your installer, because each is keyed into your System 3060 system — Security ID Systems does not sell a drop-in SimonsVoss credential. This is inherent to the system's active, copy-protected design, not a supply limitation.
